Johannesburg - Stephan Welz & Co will stage another of its high-end auctions in Johannesburg next Tuesday (21 April), where a classic Bentley Continental Convertible and a collection of fine F1 scale models are set to go under the hammer.

The 1989 Bentley Continental Convertible is one of only 195 built, and is the only one known to live in South Africa. Auctioneers have valued the car, with only 27 000km on the clock, between R2.2 and R2.9-million.

This example features metallic navy blue paint with magnolia leather interior, Mouton sheepskin carpets and cocktail cabinets in both the driver and passenger doors.

The three model Formula One cars are expected to fetch between R55 000 and R80 000 each, but these aren’t your average Dinky toys.

EXQUISITE DETAIL

Hand-built by famous English model company Amalgam, the three Ferrari racers are finished in exquisite 1/8 scale detail, and are housed in Perspex display cases. All three are limited-edition models of cars raced by Michael Schumacher - the Ferrari F2004, a winner at Bahrain, is one of 30 models produced; the F2007, which was raced at the Australian F1 Grand Prix at Melbourne, is one of 50; and the 248F1, which was raced in the 2006 Grand Prix at Monza is one of 99.

Other lots to be sold at 7pm on Tuesday, on the fourth floor of the South Tower at Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton, include a 1985 Mercedes 500SL Roadster, and a 1985 Bentley Mulsanne Turbo Saloon. These are valued between R250 000 and R300 000 each.

Pre-auction viewing is open from now until Monday from 10am to 5pm daily.

Bids can be made on location or online via www.the-saleroom.com live on the day.
