Pretoria – Twelve people died when a minibus taxi and a bakkie collided on the N1 in Hammanskraal north of Pretoria on Saturday, Netcare 911 paramedics said.
"Six of the deceased are children," said spokeswoman Athlenda Mathe.
Two people were transported to hospitals in the area for further medical care.
The road had been closed, she said.
