British planes fired missiles at a bunker in Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's home town of Sirte, the Ministry of Defence said on Friday.
“At around midnight, a formation of Tornado GR4s... fired a salvo of Storm Shadow precision-guided missiles against a large headquarters bunker in Gaddafi's home town of Sirte,” a statement said.
NATO planes attacked Gaddafi loyalists in Sirte on Thursday, destroying 29 armed vehicles, according to the alliance's daily briefing in Brussels on Friday.
With Tripoli largely under their control, rebel forces hunting Gaddafi are advancing on Sirte, where he was born, but have met strong resistance east of the city.
Speculation that Gaddafi might have found refuge in the town, which lies 360 kilometres (225 miles) east of Tripoli, has not been confirmed. - Sapa-AFP
