Sudanese security agents released a correspondent for the pan-Arab newspaper Al-Hayat after holding him for six days in Khartoum, his family and the journalists' union said.
Al-Nur Ahmad al-Nur, who is also an editorial adviser for Sudanese daily Al-Tigheer, was at home with his family after being freed late on Wednesday, his brother told AFP.
The journalist was in good health, Muntasir Ahmad al-Nur said.
Agents of the National Intelligence and Security Services arrested Nur last on Thursday on Khartoum's central Mek Nimir Street.
The Sudanese Journalists' Union confirmed that Nur had been freed.
“Mr Al-Nur Ahmad al-Nur has been released after the efforts from the journalists' union with the security and intelligence,” it said.
A hundred journalists had held a sit-in outside the Press Council in Khartoum on Monday, calling for Nur's release.
Sudan ranked near the bottom, at 172 out of 180, in the Reporters Without Borders 2014 World Press Freedom Index. - Sapa-AFP
