Johannesburg -

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Tanzania on Wednesday ahead of Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) unity talks, the presidency said.

Ramaphosa, as special envoy to Sudan, would represent President Jacob Zuma who is in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum, spokesman Ronnie Mamoepa said in a statement.

Ramaphosa would participate in and bear witness to the signing of a unity agreement between different factions of the SPLM.

The SPLM reportedly split into factions in recent years following the South Sudanese civil war.

“The unity agreement was facilitated by the ANC, Chama-cha Mapinduzi of Tanzania and National Resistance Movement of Uganda,” Mamoepa said.

Ramaphosa was expected to return to South Africa later on Wednesday. - Sapa
