Harare - Zimbabwe has secured $206 million from a regional bank to upgrade a major highway, part of a revamp of its ageing roads after a decade of economic stagnation, Finance Minister Tendai Biti said on Thursday.

The Development Bank of Southern Africa will fund the 800km highway, which links the eastern border city of Mutare with the capital, Harare, and Plumtree, a small border town near Botswana.

Biti said Harare was also close to securing funds to upgrade the main north-south highway, an important regional trade route running from Beitbridge in South Africa to Chirundu on the Zambian border. - Reuters
