Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma is visiting Angola to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, the International Relations department said on Wednesday.

“During the visit, the two Heads of State are expected to exchange views on issues affecting our bilateral relationship, the SADC region and the continent.” said department spokesman Clayson Monyela.

Zuma visited Angola in August 2009 accompanied by eleven ministers. It was his first visit to a foreign country after his inauguration in the same year.

Angolan President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos then visited South Africa in December 2010.

During both visits, agreements and memorandums of understanding were signed to strengthen the relationship between the two countries, Monyela said.

The two nations were working closely in the promotion of peace and stability as well as regional integration of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Angola is one of South Africa's major trading partners on the continent and the main imports from Angola are petroleum and diamonds. -Sapa
