Berlin - A Berlin cat missing for seven years was found and brought back to its owner, a local animal protection organisation said on Saturday.
Black-and-white tabby Miko was found in the hallway of a building in the Berlin district of Kreuzberg.
Luckily, the cat was implanted with a chip, allowing his now 18-year-old original owner to be located across town in Charlottenburg.
“I recognised him immediately!” said Elena Hanke, who was 11 years old when Miko went for a stroll in the family garden and never came back.
“He was always very trusting,” said Hanke, who lives at home with her parents. She says Miko was probably staying with kitty friends in the interim. Hanke got herself another cat, which unfortunately died.
Miko in the meantime will find his old home fully furnished. “My father has dug a couple of things out of the cellar,” Hanke says.
But will Miko now find himself under house arrest?
“I think we'll allow him to go outside,” Hanke said. “We'll take the risk.”
