London - A shopkeeper has confessed to planting cannabis in Glastonbury town centre’s floral displays.

But with a name like Free Cannabis, he must have known the police would soon come knocking on his door.

Mr Cannabis, who changed his name by deed poll from Robert Christopher, sells a legal form of hemp for medicinal purposes.

He came forward after a resident last week spotted a cannabis plant in a tub in the High Street and reported it to the police.

‘I and others drop the seeds into the tubs,’ he said. ‘They get watered by nature – and the council.’

He even won an award for a display containing cannabis 18 years ago and ended up in court, where he was given a conditional discharge.

John Brunsdon, a councillor for the town, said: ‘This happens all the time, we just remove them when we come across them. It’s clearly people having a lark at the town’s expense.’
