Her boyfriend has just hung up his Speedos after taking part in his final Olympic Games.
But it seems Megan Rossee is only too happy to take up the mantle as she went for a spot of swimming herself in a striking gold bikini.
Megan, an aspiring Los Angeles-based model and actress, “lapped up” the attention in her skimpy two-piece and made a splash of her own at the beach in Santa Monica.
The fame-hungry 25-year-old cut an even more impressive figure in the water than swim king Phelps and was joined by friends for a sunny day out on the golden sands.
Phelps – said to be worth $40m (332.5m) – is enjoying a boys-only holiday in the Maldives after taking his final professional turn at the London Games where he added to his haul with four gold and two silver medals.
The Maryland-born US athlete is the most decorated Olympian ever, with an impressive clutch of 22 medals, including 18 gold.
He has been quietly dating Rossee for six months, with the pair making their romance official by appearing together on the red carpet at a Speedo-sponsored event earlier this month in London.
Rossee has frequently broadcast her relationship with Phelps on Twitter, posting a number of intimate photographs of him.
She has also called him pet names in a number of public Tweets. “Good luck tonight, bear,” she posted on August 2, the day of the men’s 200m individual medley final.
But her willingness to publicise their relationship has led some to speculate that she is only in it for the fame.
“Michael is like a puppy dog around Megan – he’s completely in love with her,” a source told Radar recently.
“However, like any young girl hoping to make it in Hollywood, she’s ambitious and knows that by associating herself with Michael she will get a lot of press herself.
