Cape Town - A couple are in critical condition after they were stabbed multiple times by burglars in a house in Bishopscourt.

The attack took place on Tuesday at about 12.30pm in Briar Road.

Police spokeswoman Noloyiso Rwexana said: “I can only confirm that cases of attempted murder and house robbery are being investigated.”

She said the man, 40, and woman, 42, were in a critical condition.

Derek McMahon, of the Bishopscourt Village Residents Association, confirmed the incident.

The Newlands Community Forum (NCF) said three men forced their way onto the property with a chisel-type instrument and were met by the homeowner’s son and his girlfriend.

“The residents sustained multiple stab wounds and are seriously injured… A white Ford Bantam bakkie with a white canopy, damaged right front side panel and scratched front bumper with ‘Construction Vehicle’ printed front and rear is being sought.”

The forum said the bakkie was travelling with cloned plates.

Meanwhile, in Southfield, a 68-year-old man was stabbed at his home yesterday morning. ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said he had two minor stab wounds.
