Port Elizabeth - The body of a missing fisherman was found floating in the sea near Blue Horizon Bay in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape police said on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Majola Nkohli said the body was identified as Mbongeni Gift Zulu, 43, from Jeffreys Bay.

"The crew of a vessel, Gambit, that was sailing near Blue Horizon Bay in Port Elizabeth saw a body floating in the sea, and later brought the body to the port in St Francis Bay,” Nkohli said.

Zulu was one of the eight fisherman who went missing after a chokka boat capsized near St Francis Bay during the early hours of Sunday morning.

At the time, one person was declared dead and several others were injured.

Distress flares were fired from the boat at around 3am, and other fishing boats nearby confirmed the vessel had capsized.

Seven crew members were recovered, six of which were hospitalised and are in a stable condition.

The Maredon was confirmed to have had 16 crew on board.

Police are urging anyone interested in assisting in the search of the now seven missing fishermen to contact Captain Johan Du Toit on 071 475 1831.
