Johannesburg - An alleged 22-year-old serial rapist was arrested on Wednesday morning, in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

"Since September 2016, the suspect has been terrorising the young victims [aged] between 11 and 22 years old in the Pinetown area and in all incidents the suspect would approach the victims in the Pinetown CBD befriend them and then lure them towards the nearby forest.

At some stage he would force the victims threatening them with the bread knife and eventually rape them," spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said.

Mbhele said in the most recent incident on Tuesday, a 22-year-old woman was in Pinetown Centre when she was approached by the man.

"The suspect asked the victim’s name and started befriending the victim and he further requested the victim to accompany him to fetch money from his mother who is a domestic worker. As they were walking in Lahee Park, the suspect grabbed the victim and forced her to the bushes and eventually raped her," said Mbhele.

The case was reported in Pinetown police station and he was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday morning. He is expected to appear in court soon.
