Three more people are expected to appear in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court on Friday in connection with the murder last year of retired college lecturer Abram Moema, 62.

This will bring to seven the number of people linked to Moema’s killing.

Moema’s wife, Martha, her two sons Kgopotso, 26, and Moemi, 21, and her daughter Motlhohi, 35, appeared in court yesterday in connection with his murder.

They were expected to apply for bail, but the matter was postponed to August 11 after the court was told that three more people had been arrested.

According to the State, the three will be brought to court by investigating officer Captain Happy Vilankulu today.

It was argued that it would be unfair if the bail application of the four accused continued without the other three suspects.

“If we start the bail application we should do it once,” the State said.

It is alleged that Martha and her three children murdered Abram for financial gain.

Abram went missing from his Ga-Rankuwa home on March 1 last year.

His body was found in the family’s back garden, only metres from the bedroom which Abram shared with his wife, on June 29.

It is alleged that the family members have confessed to the murder and told police how they stabbed Abram to death in his sleep after he had eaten and gone to bed. They then buried his body in the garden.

Moemi and Kgopotso apparently said that their mother had offered them R100 000 each if they helped her to kill their father.

They allegedly planned to dump the body at a nearby river and put it in the boot of their car.

However, the car failed to start, so they left the body there for three days.

They then buried him beneath a pile of bricks and building sand.

The couple’s eldest daughter, Motlhohi, allegedly hired people to pave the backyard two weeks ago.

As the workers were digging, they made the gruesome discovery.

Motlhohi was arrested on July 25 when she was implicated in the killing by her mother and brothers. - Pretoria News
