Johannesburg - Johannesburg metro police arrested 468 people in a weekend blitz on drinking and driving, metro police spokesman Wayne Minnaar said on Monday.
Minnaar said of those, 298 were nabbed at roadblocks on the city’s freeways. In Orange Farm, 33 people were arrested for driving while over the legal alcohol limit, in Soweto 19 and in Midrand 25.
“With all of them blood samples were taken and they were released on bail of between R1000 and R1500,” Minnaar said.
He said most drivers were released after around three hours in police cells but in some cases it took longer.
Minnaar said the campaign would continue on Monday.
