Johannesburg - Forty nine people were arrested in central Johannesburg at the weekend for crimes ranging from armed robbery to shoplifting, Gauteng police said on Sunday.
“Four suspects were arrested for common robbery, one for armed robbery, two for possession of suspected stolen property, one for possession of an unlicensed firearm, two for theft and eight for shoplifting,” said warrant officer Xoli Mbele in a statement.
Other crimes included assault, car theft and fraud.
Most of those arrested will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Monday. - Sapa
