Johannesburg – Two Chubb security guards arrested in connection with the FNB safety boxes robbery were expected to apply for bail in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The Hawks said the men, both aged 40, drilled a wall at FNB's branch in Randburg and gained access to the vault in December last year. They were arrested two weeks ago.

“At least 362 safety deposit boxes containing valuables such as jewellery, money, and documents and firearms were stolen,” said the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) spokesperson, Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu.

“Police followed on information and recovered 250 safety deposit boxes which were damaged, forced opened and emptied at an open field near FNB stadium three days after the robbery.”

The pair were arrested in Winterveldt and Centurion, Pretoria.
