Stinkwater, Gauteng -

A man was shot dead and another critically wounded in a shoot-out with police in Stinkwater, north of Pretoria, police said on Thursday.

Captain Dennis Adriao said four armed men robbed a general store on Wednesday afternoon.

“The men were on their way out of the store when they noticed police approaching. They opened fire.”

A shoot-out ensued during which one man was shot dead and another wounded by a shot to the head.

Police arrested the remaining two armed robbers. The injured man was taken to a nearby hospital.

The men were expected to appear in the Temba Magistrate's Court on Friday on charges of attempted murder, armed robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
