Johannesburg - Police have arrested a 37-year-old woman who they believe was hired to help get Radovan Krejcir out of his sticky financial situation.

Spokesman Lieutenant General Solomon Makgale said the woman had been arrested on Friday when she allegedly made multiple cash withdrawals from different branches of a bank after about R600 000 was deposited into her account.

She is to be charged with fraud and money laundering.

The woman told police the money had been deposited by Krejcir’s mother and she was meant to give it to him.

Last week, the Czech fugitive had to drop the services of his attorney because he had not paid her bill.

Later this month, he faces sentencing after being found guilty of attempted murder in the Johannesburg High Court.

It is not clear whether he will have legal representation, as he still has to pay his legal team for that case, as well as an upfront payment for two others trials he is facing.

All of Krejcir’s assets, including two multimillion-rand homes, belong to the state, after the SA Revenue Service won a preservation order against him last year. The homes will be sold on auction to help pay Krejcir’s tax bill.

Makgale said over the weekend investigators had linked the 37-year-old woman to Amanda Papoutsis, an estate agent who was arrested after she was caught trying to sneak a cellphone hidden in a shoe to Krejcir in his prison cell.

The 37-year-old was expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning.

Both women were allegedly receiving instructions from Marlene “Molly” Nezar, who is Krejcir’s son Denis’s girlfriend.

Police are looking for Nezar as they believe she might have given Krejcir a gun, which was found in his jail cell, along with several cellphones.

The gun was part of a plot for Krejcir to escape using a helicopter which was meant to pick him up and fly him out of the country.

Nezar allegedly flew to Dubai on September 30 and then to Poland to join the rest of the Krejcir family.

“¨We are thrilled with how things are unfolding at the moment, as far as this investigation is concerned,” Makgale said.

“While we don’t have everyone who is assisting Krejcir in his escape plans behind bars yet, things are falling into place.

“We are close to arresting a number of prison officials, as well as a number of civilians, who have been involved in these plans,” he said.
