Durban - Three of the 19 people arrested in connection with a drug laboratory in an upper-class Durban suburb were denied bail in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Magistrate Ravi Pillay denied bail because two of the three Swaziland nationals were in the country illegally, while a third had violated the conditions of his visitor's visa which prohibited him from working.

The three - Thoba Shongwe, Siphiwo Dlamini and Menzi Ntshalintshali - were in group of 19 arrested at the end of November after police raided a house in Durban's Gillitts suburb.

Equipment to produce Mandrax and heroin was seized together with drugs with a estimated street value of R41 million.

All 19 will appear in court on February 27. - Sapa
