Johannesburg -

A Soweto pastor who allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl and sexually assaulted two others was granted bail by the Protea Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, police said.

The 62-year-old was released on bail of R6000 and the matter was postponed to January 11, said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.

The pastor was arrested last week.

He allegedly raped the 12-year-old girl and sexually assaulted two others, aged 13 and 15.

The 12-year-old told her teachers at school, who alerted the police.

A month earlier, she told her mother she had been raped, but her mother did not believe her.

The other two girls came forward after the 12-year-old reported the matter, said Makhubela. - Sapa
