Johannesburg - A seven-year-old boy was shot in the KwaNobuhle township, allegedly by his 12-year-old friend, Eastern Cape police said on Saturday.
“The 12-year-old boy went into his father's friend bedroom where he found the firearm,” said Warrant Officer Gerda Swart.
“He allegedly took the firearm and a shot went off and hit the seven-year-old boy in the chest.”
The shooting occurred on Friday.
The injured boy was rushed to hospital.
The 12-year-old boy who was in his parents care and was expected to appear in the KwaNobuhle Magistrate's Court on Monday where he would face a charge of attempted murder.
Police were investigating another charge related to the Firearms Control Act. - Sapa
