A seven-year-old girl and a boy who allegedly raped her at a school in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town, have received counselling, the Western Cape education department said on Wednesday.
"The priority was to ensure that the girl got the relevant support and counselling," spokeswoman Bronagh Casey said.
"The department also made sure that the alleged perpetrator got the appropriate counselling."
Casey said the rape was committed on the school's premises on Friday morning. She said the school had opened an investigation, and it was also working with the police in probing the matter.
"The school's governing body will decide on the suitable action to be taken after the internal investigations have been completed."
The police could not immediately be reached for comment. - Sapa
