Johannesburg - The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) in the North West on Sunday applauded the arrest of a fourth suspect said to have played a pivotal role in the murder of businessman Wandile Bozwana.

“Justice will be served and the Bozwana family find closure when the real masterminds behind Bozwana’s coldblooded murder are behind bars. The suspect that is reportedly signing like a canary must sing to the last critical note,” provincial chairman Paul Sebegoe said.

He reiterated his earlier assertion that a watertight case and successful prosecution of the suspects would restore public confidence in the criminal justice system.

“The allegations by City Press that businessmen and politicians who had paid the hitmen R100 000 were the masterminds behind Bozwana’s assassination suggest that speculations that his death was a hit orchestrated by those who stood to benefit from his death were not entirely off the mark,” he said.

The City Press newspaper report suggested that the suspect, who had several previous convictions including robbery, was traced to Buyafuthi hostels in Katlehong in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng. He was reportedly cornered and arrested by officers from the Hawks, Gauteng police, and metro police as he was about to leave the hostels.

Two sources close to the investigation reportedly told City Press that the man, whose alleged role in the murder was to co-ordinate the hitmen and liaise with the “masterminds”, was already spilling the beans on who were the real masterminds, Sebegoe said.

The Hawks had not ruled out the possibility of more arrests after it emerged that 10 individuals had already been approached to give statements to the investigators.

Hawks spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi allegedly confirmed the arrest of the suspect. He reportedly said the man had already appeared in court on Tuesday and would again appear on June 22 when he would join the other suspects, Sebegoe said.

Police had earlier confirmed that those arrested for the death of the North West businessman were found in possession of semi-automatic and automatic rifles and ammunition. They were also charged for being in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.

Additionally, they were found in possession of radio jammers and were charged for contravening the Electronic Communications Act, Sebegoe said.

They already faced charges of murder, attempted murder, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
