Durban - Looking for a taste of the good life, two women tried to sneak off from an uMhlanga restaurant with a bottle of expensive champagne at the weekend.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said in a media release that the women had arrived at the restaurant in Chartwell Drive and had ordered two glasses of wine at around 11pm on Saturday night.

“As the women were leaving they slipped a bottle of Moët & Chandon in a bag, but an alert waiter spotted the alleged theft and followed them outside where he apprehended them,” Jackson said.

“Durban North SAPS attended the scene of the crime and both women were taken into police custody,” he said.

Moët & Chandon champagne retails for between R499 and more than R1 200 a bottle at local stores.
