Pietermaritzburg - A man was sentenced to one life term and 15 years imprisonment by the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court for the rape of one girl and the sexual assault of another, the NPA said on Monday.
Qetelo Andile Pata, 37, on Friday pleaded guilty to the crimes, which happened on March 5, 2013, National Prosecuting Authority spokeswoman Natasha Kara said in a statement.
Both attacks took place in the KwaHaza area. Pata sexually assaulted a 13-year-old at his home.
“He was disturbed by the coughing of a passer-by and this allowed the girl to escape,” Kara said.
He later repeatedly raped a 15-year-old girl after going to fetch her from her home. Both girls knew him.
Pata told the court he felt tempted to commit these acts when he saw the girls. He had previously served a 10-year jail sentence for rape.
