Port Elizabeth - A construction worker was shot dead in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth, on Wednesday, Eastern Cape police said.
The man was speaking to two police officers investigating a drowning in the area when two people opened fire on them, Captain Andre Beetge said.
“Both police members took cover, and when they wanted to react... the attackers (had) already fled the scene.”
The 40-year-old construction worker shot in the head. He died on the scene. The cause of the attack was unclear. Police however suspect it was an attempted robbery.
