Cop held after rape of little girls

A Mitchell’s Plain policeman has been arrested for allegedly raping his stepdaughters aged five and six.

The girls were admitted to the Red Cross Children’s Hospital after the assault on Monday.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer November Filander said the 32-year-old man had been arrested on Friday after handing himself over to police.

He is in custody and will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court tomorrow on charges of rape.

Lauren O’Connor-May, spokesperson for the Red Cross Children’s Hospital, said the girls were in a stable condition and arrangements were being made for their discharge to a place of safety.

In an unrelated incident, the body of a 46-year-old woman was found in a house in Ainsdale Street, Maitland, yesterday. She had a white electric cord wrapped around her neck. Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Siyabulela Vukubi said there were no signs of forced entry.

Meanwhile, a South African woman who allegedly swallowed 40 pellets of crystal methamphetamine in an attempt to smuggle it into New Zealand has been arrested at Auckland airport, the New Zealand Herald reported on Friday.

The woman was allegedly carrying 570g of crystal methamphetamine, also known as tik, when she landed last week.

A South African man and a Nigerian man were also arrested and charged with conspiracy to import drugs after police linked them to the woman. - Sunday Argus
