Johannesburg - The family of murdered three-year-old Cuburne van Wyk have yet to find closure, his emotional aunt Lenora de Wee said at a DA march in Pretoria on Thursday.

Van Wyk's burnt body was found at a mine dump days after he was kidnapped from her house in August.

“It makes no sense why they did that. If someone could help us to find closure because the courts say there isn't enough evidence but we all know who did it. We just want closure,” she said.

De Wee was taking part in a march by the Democratic Alliance to protest against rising levels of crime.

She wanted National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega to let justice take its course.

“Please madam, let justice be revealed. There are criminals that sell children for drugs and cops who take bribes.”

She said dockets often went missing and families were not updated about cases.

“There are a lot of unsolved cases because we don't know where the dockets are.”

De Wee said the court had told her family there was not enough evidence to pursue the matter.

“The kids he was playing with saw him being taken by a man and the dogs barked,” she said.

She said the way her nephew had died was cruel.

“He was found with a stone on his head and was burnt. That is cruel. That guy left us with a lot of pain.

“His siblings are asking us everyday where Cuburne is.”

Phiyega accepted a memorandum handed over by DA MPL John Moodey.

She thanked the party and its supporters for a peaceful march and said the solution to combating crime was with the help of South Africans.

“We are busy with our festive season (crime fighting) campaign where were are asking everybody to join hands with us,” she said at national police headquarters where the march ended.
