Cape Town – In yet another horrific case involving a child, police in Lingelethu, Khayelitsha in Cape Town have arrested a 25-year-old father following the death of his two-year-old daughter who was in his care, Western Cape police said on Sunday.
"The toddler was taken to Khayelitsha Day Hospital this morning [Sunday] by the paternal grandmother after she was alerted by the suspect that the child was not breathing," Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said.
"She was certified dead on arrival at the hospital by the doctor. The two-year-old had been in [her] father's care after the suspect requested time with [the] child as he had recently been released from prison. FCS [family violence, child protection, and sexual offences unit] detectives [are] investigating a case of rape and murder. The suspect is expected in court soon," Rwexana said.
