Durban - A bus driver was killed in Effingham Road, north Durban today.

It is believed Ebrahim Mahomed had been driving towards central Durban when he was shot seven times, said his father, Baboo Mahomed.

He died in hospital.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane, said Mahomed was shot by an unknown suspect while loading passengers on to the bus.

“Nothing was taken. A case of murder was opened at Greenwood Park police station. No arrest has been made,” Zwane said.

The family believe the shooting may be linked to competition with minibus taxis.

Mahomed drove the only bus in Effingham.
