Johannesburg - You can’t outsmart or outrun these early-bird cops.

On Thursday, police caught suspects too sleepy to escape, seizing both them and a heap of suspected stolen goods in Bloemfontein.

The police team “were like the active social birds clucking and squawking before sunrise at the doors of their wanted suspects”, said Sergeant Ikobeng Hlubi of the Mangaung police.

“This was a wise decision by the team led by the station detective commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Ben Bolsiek. Before midday they had successfully arrested two of their wanted suspects and confiscated the stolen items from the two.”

The first suspect was found tucked up in bed. The second tried to run at the sight of the police.

“But he couldn’t outrun the well-trained officials, as they caught up with him and arrested him,” said Hlubi.

Police seized computers, cellphones, bottles of wine, motor vehicle oil and a toy gun.

The pair are due in court soon.
