King Williams Town - A 26-year-old man appeared in the Butterworth Magistrate's Court on Friday in connection with possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition and suspected stolen property, Eastern Cape police said.

The man was not asked to plead and his case was postponed to Tuesday for further investigation. The accused remained in custody, spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha said.

Msobomvu police arrested the man in Zizamele township in Butterworth on Wednesday for possession of an unlicensed pistol, ammunition, and four computers suspected to be stolen.

“The suspect was also found with fake CDs and DVDs and it is believed he manufactures the fake CDs and DVDs with the computers that were recovered from him. The computers are valued [at] R27 000,” Manatha said.

In a separate incident, Centane police arrested a 29-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm which had no ammunition.

The man was arrested at Macibe village, Centane, just before 8pm on Friday night. “The suspect was arrested following police intelligence.

The firearm will be circulated and will be sent for ballistic testing to establish if it was not used in the commission of a crime.” He would appear in the Centane Magistrate's Court on Monday on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm, Manatha said. -
