Thohoyandou - The Limpopo high court has sentenced a man to 25 years in prison for killing his ex-wife and her partner in 2014.

Handing down sentence to Tebogo Moabelo in the Thohoyandou division, acting Judge Maele Mushasha said women’s right to freedom should be respected.

According to Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi from the National Prosecuting, the murder took place a day after the magistrate’s court granted a final protection order against the convicted for abusing his former partner, Mapule Darlene Modiba.

“The killing took place the same day after the accused appeared before Makhado Magistrate court for a final protection order which was issued against him for abusing the said ex-lover,” said Malabi-Dzhangi.

The high court also found Moabelo guilty on another charge of using car without authorisation.

He killed Modiba and her male companion, Victor Radebe, in her rented home in October 2014. He shot them several times, then took Radebe’s car, drove back to his home in Bochum and abandoned the car in the bush.

Moabelo was arrested the following day in Bochum.

State prosecutor Ratshilumela Makhera had called for him to be sentenced to life for each count of murder.

He said Mobida lost her life simply because she was no longer interested in Moabela because he was abusive.
