Cape Town - A Cape Town man is accused of tricking two university students into believing he was a modelling agent so he could meet them privately and allegedly sexually assault them.

Frederick Jansen, 56, made a brief appearance at the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on charges of theft and sexual assault on Tuesday.

In July, the Delft resident reportedly got two University of Cape Town women, both in their 20s, to invite him to their rooms at a student residence in Observatory.

He claimed to be a modelling agent who was recruiting models for a shoot at the V&A Waterfront.

The self-employed photographer reportedly showed them a portfolio with half-naked models, which convinced the women he was legit.

He was invited to come to their rooms on July 22 and 24.

Once in their rooms, the accused allegedly pulled at the nipples of the one woman before rubbing her breasts and her pelvic area.

He is accused of also rubbing the breast and private parts of the second victim and trying to pull down her panties.

It was discovered that he had also allegedly stolen one of his women’s laptops.

Last month, the father of one was released on R500 bail after the State indicated they would not be opposing his release.

On Tuesday, a subdued-looking Jansen walked nervously into the dock, dressed formally in an oversized black suit and shirt.

The tall man kept his head bowed during the proceedings, avoiding eye contact with anyone in the gallery.

State prosecutor Dail Andrews told the court that investigations into the matter are yet to be completed.

Andrews said: “The State requests a further remand for further investigations.

“The first report is still outstanding as the complainant lives in KwaZulu-Natal, the investigating officer indicates he needs someone in KZN to take the statement from the witness.”

Magistrate Joe Magele postponed the matter to November 12 and extended the accused’s bail.

As part of his bail conditions, Jansen is not allowed in Observatory and is ordered to report at the Delft Police Station twice a week.
