Cape Town – The founder of Boksburg’s H20 parties and also a consultant to the Ultra Music Festival SA, David Forbes, is to go on trial in the Cape Town Regional Court for the alleged murder of ticket tout Toufiq Joseph at a city petrol station in January.

Forbes, 48, is alleged to have shot Joseph, 23, dead at an Engen petrol station in Orange Street in the Cape Town CBD, on January 24.

He appeared in the Cape Town District Court on Wednesday, before magistrate Joe Magele, who said Forbes would be informed on September 4 when his trial in the Regional Court would commence.

At Wednesday’s proceedings, defence counsel Peter Mihalik said Forbes’s defence would be that he acted in self defence, after the deceased had threatened him with a knife.

Forbes would plead not guilty to a charge of murder, Mihalik said.

Forbes was initially refused bail, but was later released on R20 000 bail when he filed an appeal with the Western Cape High Court.

At Wednesday’s proceedings, prosecutor Dale Andrews told the court that the police investigation had been completed.
