Johannesburg – A 27-year-old Tanzanian man was sentenced to six years imprisonment by the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court for drug dealing and bribery, the the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) said on Thursday.
Spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said Karim Mussa Kondo tried to bribe authorities with R5000 after he was found in possession of drugs with an estimated valued of over R2.6 million.
“Kondo was arrested early this year after landing at the OR Tambo International Airport from Dar es Salaam. A routine search of his luggage by the Hawks team and customs revealed that he had concealed approximately 40kg of ephedrine drugs with an estimated value of over R2.6 million,” Maluma said.
Hawks national head, Lieutenant General Mthandazo Ntlemeza welcomed the conviction and warned would be traffickers: “Our eyes and ears are everywhere, just when you think you are home and dry, you will be next.”
