Johannesburg - Gunmen shot a bus driver after storming the vehicle as it halted at a bus stop on Ontdekkers Road in Newlands, west of Johannesburg, on Wednesday morning, ER24 paramedics said.

The driver, in his fifties, was shot in the abdomen and remains in a serious condition in hospital.

A male passenger was also injured and suffered a graze wound to his abdomen. The reasons for the attack remain as yet unknown.

“The driver of the bus explained that an unknown amount of suspects entered the bus as he stopped near the Mollie Road bus stop and opened fire into the bus. The bus had several passengers on board at the time. Fortunately no one else was injured in this incident,” ER24 said.
