Pretoria - Gauteng police seized police equipment and firearms on Thursday from a car allegedly used by hijackers in Moreleta Park, Pretoria.

A police bulletproof vest, reflector jacket, uniform, 74 rounds of ammunition, and unlicensed firearms, including R5 rifles, were found in the car, Lt-Col Katlego Mogale said.

The hijackers, travelling in a BMW 1 series, tried to hijack a BMW X5.

“As they were fleeing, they were noticed by the Pretoria crime intelligence members who were in the area as they weaved through traffic. A high-speed chase ensued and the suspects fired shots at the police, who returned fire.”

Police chased the hijackers to Olifantsfontein, where they stopped and fled on foot. No arrests were made.
