Cape Town - The Department of Home Affairs confirmed on Thursday that its head of security at the Customs House refugee centre has been removed for allegedly taking bribes.

Refugees have long complained that security staff at the centre were offering to help them get ahead in the line for cash.

Security at the centre was provided by an independent security company and the department asked the company to replace the individual after claims of corruption, said Yusuf Simons, Home Affairs department head in the Western Cape.
