Durban - A Glenwood resident fought back on Wednesday after two men broke into a complex in Che Guevara (Moore) Road and robbed a mother of her valuables before fleeing in her car.

Michael Ostler, a resident in the complex, said the incident at about 3pm started when one of the men broke into a flat. The other man remained outside as a lookout.

The robber broke the lock and while he was inside, a woman who lived in one of the flats returned home and parked her car outside. The man waiting outside ran away.

"She walked into the flat and the guy inside came to her with a screwdriver and put it on her neck," said Ostler.

He said one of the neighbours, who lives on the floor above, heard the woman scream and came to check what was happening.

"She came down holding her 1-year-old baby and the guy took them and put them both inside the flat. He rushed trying to take all the jewellery and other valuables," Ostler said. He then stole the woman's car.

Ostler said he was standing on the third floor and could see that the robber and his accomplice could not drive.

"They reversed badly and got stuck. I grabbed a pot plant and I threw it out of the window and it smashed the car's back window. They took off," he said.

No one was injured, but the two women were in shock.

Police got to the flat about 30 minutes later.

Ostler said the car was later found in Stephen Dlamini (Essenwood) Road.

Police spokeswoman Nqobile Gwala said no arrest had been made.
