Johannesburg - Almost 350 000 illegal DVDs and CDs were confiscated in police raids across Gauteng over the festive period, police said on Tuesday.
About 97 000 bottles of liquor were also confiscated, acting Gauteng police commissioner Lt-Gen Joel Mothiba said.
National police commissioner Riah Phiyega said the illicit goods were found mostly in Hillbrow in Johannesburg and in Pretoria.
She and Mothiba poured out thousands of litres of alcohol and destroyed thousands of illegal DVDs in Isando, Kempton Park, on the East Rand.
They called on South Africans to help stamp out trade in illegal goods, because such products damaged the country's economic growth. - Sapa
