Johannesburg - A parent has been shot in an armed robbery and suspected hijacking, whilst waiting for his child outside the school gates, on Tuesday afternoon.

EMER-G-MED spokesperson, Max Cohen, reported "at 13:52 EMER-G-MED paramedics, K9 TEMS unit and Netcare911 paramedics responded to reports of a shooting at 11th Avenue, outside Rivonia Primary School".

The parent has sustained a single gunshot wound to his leg. Cohen said that the suspect managed to escape with the man's watch.

"Paramedics stabilised the seriously injured patient and transported him to Netcare Sunninghill Hospital. Police have opened a criminal case", Cohen said.
