Joburg police nab armed robbery suspects

Johannesburg - Five men linked to a spate of robberies near the M2 off-ramp in Johannesburg have finally been nabbed by police.

Johannesburg Central Police, in conjunction with Johannesburg Metro Police, pounced on the five for a series of robberies at the corner of the M2 West off-ramp and Main Reef Street.

According to police, the men were nabbed at the corner Main Reef and Henry Nxumalo Street after they allegedly robbed two motorists.

“It is alleged that five suspects robbed a 27-year old female and 29 year old male; both victims were driving different vehicles.”

“The victims were approaching the off-ramp when the suspects pounced on them, pointing them with firearms and demanding valuables. In the case of the male victim, the suspects took his cellphone and R2 000 while female victim had her laptop, cellphone and handbag containing wallet and ID document taken.”

The female victim screamed for help while they male drove off and alerted the police; the suspects then jumped into a white Quantum taxi and fled the scene, prompting police to give chase.

Police finally managed to apprehend all five suspects and recover the victims’ belongings

“Two firearms were also recovered from the suspects,” police confirmed.

The men were charged with armed robbery and will appear in court to face their charges.
