Johannesburg - Alleged crime lord Radovan Krejcir has had a suspected heart attack in prison.
His attorney, Piet du Plessis, from BDK Attorneys, told The Star on Tuesday that the head of the prison had informed him that Krejcir had become ill on Monday.
“He received medical treatment and I was told that doctors were with him today,” Du Plessis said on Tuesday.
It was suspected that Krejcir had a heart attack, but he could not say that for sure at this stage – “It is doctors who have to determine that.”
Du Plessis said that because Krejcir was in prison, he could not speak to him in person to find out what had happened, but he intended visiting his client on Wednesday to establish exactly what took place.
Forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan doubted Krejcir had a heart attack.
“I hope they have him under heavy police guard so he doesn’t mysteriously disappear from hospital,” he said.
Krejcir escaped from custody while in the Czech Republic, fleeing to the Seychelles before coming to South Africa in 2007, using a passport in the name of Egbert Juls Savy.
His is accused of conspiring to kill O’Sullivan and Colonel Nkosana “Killer” Ximba along with Owen Serero, Siboniso Miya, Zoduma Biyela, Jacob Nare, Nkanyiso Mafunda, Simphiwe Memela and Nandi Nkosi.
