Johannesburg - Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir's lawyers applied for access to the police docket during his bail application in the Palm Ridge Regional Court on Wednesday.
Willie Vermeulen, for Krejcir, specifically wanted access to a confession that co-accused Desai Luphondo allegedly made to the police.
Prosecutor Louis Mashiane opposed the application. He said the confession contained names of people still on the run and wanted by police.
“At this stage, disclosing the contents of the confession would be prejudicial to the State. More people, as contained in the docket, are still to be arrested,” Mashiane said.
Magistrate Reginald Dama adjourned the court in order to make a ruling.
The four face charges of kidnapping, assault and attempted murder.
Luphondo's legal representative also wanted to see the confession. He said his client was severely assaulted, and it was made under duress.
Krejcir, arrested on November 22, and Luphondo appeared in the same court last Monday, when proceedings were held in camera for security reasons and postponed for further investigation.
Two members of specialist police unit the Hawks - Samuel Modise Maropeng and George Jeff Nthoroane - appeared briefly in the same court last Wednesday. They were also applying for bail on Wednesday. - Sapa
