KZN cops shoot gun-toting suspects

Durban – Two suspects were shot and two 9mm pistols recovered after four men exchanged fire with police on the N2 North near Chatsworth, police said on Tuesday.

Major Thulani Zwane said the incident occurred at 11:30 am on the Higgonson Highway off ramp after the police approached a Polo parked along the road.

“As they approached the said vehicle, they noticed four men approaching the blue Polo vehicle in haste on foot,” Zwane said.

The officers came under fire when they tried to approach the men.

“They returned fire and two of the suspects were injured in the cross fire and were taken to hospital in a stable condition,” he said.

Two unlicenced 9mm pistols were found in their possession and were sent for ballistic tests to determine if they were had been used in any other crimes.

Zwane added: “Two of the remaining suspects are still at large and their arrest is imminent.” .

The arrested suspects, both 28, are expected to appear in court soon, for attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms.
