Durban - Magma Investigations and Security boss, Shaheen Suleiman, was shot in the face when criminals opened fire on him and a friend.

The recovering Suleiman said he was on his way to Pietermaritzburg on Thursday night when he received a distress call from a client who was the victim of an armed robbery in progress.

“Another call came in from my office and we turned around and headed to Mountain Rise,” he said.

A number of cars were in front of the client’s property, which they bypassed to avoid an ambush. They turned and drove back and the criminals opened fire. He said there were about 15 or more people involved in the robbery and all were armed with machine guns.

“We took cover and fired back. I’ve been involved in a lot of shoot-outs before, including cash-in-heist transits, but this one was different. These guys were well organised and had spotter cars everywhere.”

Mountain Rise police head of detectives, Colonel Chris Wiles, said the owner of the house was assaulted with the butt of a firearm and no arrests had been made.
