Durban -

A 23-year old man has been arrested for assaulting two petrol attendants with a spade in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Monday.

Spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker said the man was expected to appear on Tuesday in the Verulam Magistrate's Court, north of Durban, on charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

The man became embroiled in an argument with the two petrol attendants at a petrol station on Watson Highway where he was filling up with petrol on Saturday night.

It was not clear what the argument was about, but on Sunday Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said the attendants had to be taken to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries. - Sapa
