Johannesburg - A 41-year-old man has been arrested in Durban after he was caught red-handed by police allegedly selling stolen cars, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said the SAPS Hillcrest Task Team arrested the suspect for house robbery and car theft in Hillcrest on Monday.

Zwane said police were alerted about the incident when the suspect allegedly sold two vehicles, a Toyota Fortuner and a VW Polo, to a businessman, but refused to hand in the log-books for the vehicles.

“Upon investigation, police discovered that a Fortuner was taken during the house robbery in Morningside, Durban, and the Polo was stolen in Point Road, Durban,” Zwane said.

“The investigating officers for both cases were informed about the arrest and the recovery. (The) Suspect was charged for possession of suspected stolen property and was taken to Hillcrest police station for detention.”

Zwane said the suspect would appear at the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court soon to face charges of house robbery and theft of motor vehicles.
